Find books at your wonderful nearby independent bookstore! The BookSense program helps local stores to compete with the big chains and on-line stores. Independent booksellers are wonderful people who have a lot in common with independent publishers. We usually start our searches for books at local stores. BookSense allows us to do it on line.

Book Clearing House is the pre-eminent fulfillment house for small-press books. Upper Access ran a fulfillment service for ten years, then decided to drop it because it was detracting from what we wanted to do—publishing. We were thrilled when BCH agreed to take over that part of our business. They're the best. We go back to look at this site again every few weeks, and every time we find a few more books that we want to read.

Amazon, of course, is no longer just a bookstore. We recently needed an outdoor water faucet shaped like a frog, and Amazon was the only place we could find one. If you shop at Amazon and would like to do us a favor, go there by clicking on our link, as that way they'll give us credit for helping to send some business their way. Although it is a huge company, Amazon has generally been helpful to the small-press movment because of its efforts to make available every book in print.

Barnes and Noble also carries quite a few small-press titles, particularly on its Web site.

Rogue Publishing offers print editions and instant digital delivery of electronic books, specializing in hard-to-find works and reprints. This is a new publisher, and we've been highly impressed by its initial offerings. If you've been looking for a hard-to-find work by Alexandre Dumas, for example, Rogue is your source.

J. N. Townsend Publishing produces a broad range of high-quality books about living with animals, and also a popular series of mysteries for young readers.

Anthroposophic Press carries a fascinating selection of books in fields such as western and esoteric spirituality, Waldorf education, biodynamic agriculture, and more.

Frugal Fun offers books to save money on travel, dining, romance, and other fun—and on zero/low-cost marketing for businesses, nonprofits, and individuals. The site also offers links to other book publishers and coverage of the publishing industry.

Balona.com publishes funny fiction for teens and grown-ups.

Book Hunter Press publishes seven regional guidebooks to over 8,000 used bookstores and other used and out-of-print booksellers in the U.S. and Canada.

Purple House Press is resurrecting your old favorites—classic children's books from the 1920s through the 1960s, preschool through young adult. The books are being reissued in hardcover.

Native Ground Music is a book publisher and record label specializing in historic American music and folklore.

Sam Vaknin, Ph.D., offers several free e-books on narcissism and other subjects, from his site in Macedonia.

Autodidactic Press publishes books about self-education, earning a living, and enjoying a richer life.
